Centenary Of Miltown Malbay Shootings To Be Marked

Today marks the 100 year anniversary of the Canada Cross shootings in Miltown Malbay.

On this day in 1920, British soldiers and police opened fire on a crowd of unarmed civilians in the West Clare town, who were celebrating the release of IRA hunger strikers from Kilmainham Gaol.

Three men were killed – Patrick Hennessy, Thomas O’Leary and John O’Loughlin – while 12 others were injured.
