Gardaí are seeking dash cam footage following a road crash in East Clare, which claimed the life of a man in his 50’s.

It’s understood the car collided with a truck on the R352, between Clooney Church and Norrie Henchy’s pub, at around 1.30 yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50’s, who’s understood to be from the Ballina area, passed away at the scene.

Superintendent John Galvin is urging anyone with information to contact them.

The Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe Municipal District has extended his condolences to the man’s family and friends and says the whole community will rally around them at this difficult time.

Councillor Alan O’Callaghan says concern has been raised in the past over the need for further safety works to be carried on the road, in the vicinity of Henchy’s Cross.

Clare County Council previously submitted a report with the Department of Transport, though it was decided at the time that the works weren’t warranted.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan O’Callaghan is calling on local Oireachtas members to press the Transport Minister on the matter.
