A North Clare Community is fighting to hold a vote on changing the spelling of the town name on road signs in the county.

The residents of Lahinch are aggrieved that the spelling of the coastal town is still signposted with an ‘e’ rather than an ‘a’ as has been traditional in the town since 1892.

Locals were told in 2017 that a plebiscite on the matter would be held and were assured again in 2018 that the three signs entering the town would be rectified, but no such action has been taken.
