The Communications Minister admits his Labour colleagues in Clare remain opposed to fracking here, as he prepares to decide on whether the controversial practice should be allowed.
Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Pat Rabbitte re-iterated his stance that no fracking will be allowed until such time that it is proven to be environmentally safe. He’s awaiting a report from the EPA.
A number of campaigners, particularly in West Clare, have expressed concern about the impact of fracking, as a UK firm continues exploratory tests on a 500-square-kilometre area of the Clare Basin.
A number of public meetings on the matter are to be held in Clare over the coming weeks, beginning in Mullagh tonight, but Minister Rabbitte says he’s well aware of local concern.
