The Garda Commissioner says he is very close to finalising a list of garda stations recommended for closure with fears several stations in Clare will face the axe.

Martin Callinan has told the Oireachtas Justice Committee that he is aware of the sensitivities surrounding any closures – but he says some stations do not fit in with the new policing model.
He says there has been no public consultation with the communities effected – because no one would agree with closing their local garda station.
