Commercial rates are set to increase in Ennis and Kilrush in 2017 as part of a rates harmonisation process introduced last year.

The county town will see an increase of 2.72% on last year's figure, while in Kilrush, the increase will amount to 4.09%.

There'll also be increased incentives for businesses in both towns and elsewhere in the county, where their rates are paid in full.

A 107 million euro budget has been passed for 2017 but Councillor Johnny Flynn voted against it, as he believes that far too much pressure is being placed on businesses following the abolition of town councils
