The first man to be killed during the War of Independence in Clare will be remembered at a commemorative event on Sunday.
John Ryan of the East Clare Brigade was shot dead by the RIC in Castlefergus near Newmarket on Fergus 100 years ago this weekend.

His death will be marked with the unveiling of a plaque near the site where he lost his life.
