Commemoration Event To Honour Kilrush’s First Female Councillor

A commemoration is set to take place in Kilrush later this month in memory of the town’s first ever female councillor.

Cissie Roughan was in her 60s when she was co-opted to Kilrush Urban District Council in 1980 and would serve until her passing in 1992, while she was in her second term as Chairperson.

A plaque will be unveiled in Cissie’s honour at Kilrush Town Hall on Saturday July 26th, where the life and times of the former nurse, civil defence member, Red Cross member and President of the local ICA will be remembered.

Her son Morgan has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus it’s a tremendous honour.
