The Fianna Fáil woman had een declared winner after the 20th and final count, but a full recount was called as she held a mere three-vote advantage over Ger O'Halloran.

The two candidates, who both have strong connections to Quin, faced a tense wait, and then held a meeting with returning officer Michael McNamara and their respective agents as hundreds of people watched on from outside the cordoned-off area.

There were jubulant scenes then as Colleran Molloy was confirmed as the winner on a margin of five votes – the defeated O'Halloran wished her well as she takes up a seat on Clare County Council for the first time.

Counting has now concluded in three of Clare's four electoral areas, but the wait continues for a number of candidates who are still looking to see if they will be elected in the West Clare area.
