Colleran Molloy Holds Onto Eighth Seat In Ennis

Clare Colleran Molloy has been confirmed as the winner of the eighth and final seat in the Ennis electoral area.

The Fianna Fáil woman had een declared winner after the 20th and final count, but a full recount was called as she held a mere three-vote advantage over Ger O'Halloran.

The two candidates, who both have strong connections to Quin, faced a tense wait, and then held a meeting with returning officer Michael McNamara and their respective agents as hundreds of people watched on from outside the cordoned-off area.

There were jubulant scenes then as Colleran Molloy was confirmed as the winner on a margin of five votes – the defeated O'Halloran wished her well as she takes up a seat on Clare County Council for the first time.

Counting has now concluded in three of Clare's four electoral areas, but the wait continues for a number of candidates who are still looking to see if they will be elected in the West Clare area.
