The manager of the College of Further Education in Ennis claims Leaving Cert students are less likely to opt for the traditional third-level route than in the past.
Over 84,000 CAO applicants will find out at 2 o’clock this afternoon whether or not they have received a course offer, with 52% last year having received their first choice and 82% receiving one of their top-three preferences.
With skill gaps present in a variety of sectors, students are being reminded of PLCs, apprenticeships and evening courses as alternatives to university programmes.
Manager of the College of Further Education in Ennis, Marie O’Callaghan, says due to high enrolment costs, students are becoming more discerning when it comes to third-level education.
