Exhausted locals in Clonlara have helped stop a gang of burglars attempting to break into homes left vacant by the flooding.

The incident which happened last night is being investigated by gardaí.
Gardaí at Ardnacrusha are investigating reports that a dinghy, being used in the flood relief effort was taken from a house in Springfield around 8.00 last night by a two-man gang.
They were tracked making their way across the saturated lands to houses which had been evacuated due to the ongoing flooding.
A number of local people spotted them and managed to block their way, before the two men managed to escape.
