Management at the Cliffs of Moher say they’re making ‘contingency arrangements’ for industrial action from next month.
It comes after SIPTU served strike notice with Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd. relating to an ongoing pay dispute with the company.
Staff at the Cliffs of Moher are seeking the implementation of a Labour Court recommendation granting the workers at the world famous visitor attraction, parity of pay, premium payments and sick pay with staff at Clare County Council, the owners of Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd.
In a statement to Clare FM, the company says it’s unable to implement this recommendation however, due to losses at the centre and a 23% drop in tourist numbers in recent years.
The increased payments would cost over 400 thousand euro annually.
A representative for SIPTU had told told Clare FM that while they had served the notice, they were willing to suspend it had management agreed to enter into renewed negotiations before the Labour Court.
However, the company claims they’ve invited union officials to talks on a number of occasions, but have not been taken up on this offer.
The statement goes onto say operations at the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience are not adversely affected by the industrial action and management is preparing contingency arrangements for a four hour work stoppage notified for 8th June next.
