Clayton PA faces Sentence

Adam Clayton’s former PA Carol Hawkins is due to be sentenced today for stealing 2.8 million euro from the U2 bassist.

The 47 year old of Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin was convicted by a jury on 181 charges last week.

During the trial the court heard Carol Hawkins used cheque’s to draw down 2.8 million euro from 2 of Adam Clayton’s Bank of Ireland accounts between 2004 and 2008.

As the U2 bassist’s housekeeper and PA she was authorised to sign cheque’s on his behalf.

The jury heard in around 4 years she spent 1.5 million euro on her credit card and at one point had a stable of 22 racehorses.

Despite the 181 convictions, the 47 year old maintains she’s innocent  – that will limit what her lawyers can say on her behalf at today’s sentencing hearing.
