Clare’s road could face revised speed limits

Revised Speed limits could see Clare motorists forced to slow down through a greater number of towns and villages and for longer stretches of the road.

Clare County Council has recommended reducing speed limits to 50 miles per hour around parts of Barefield Village, while extensions of lower speed limits are suggested in areas like Ballyea, Clonlara, Carron, Cross, Lahinch, Tuamgraney and Newmarket on Fergus.

In Lissycasey, it’s proposed to raise the speed limit from 60 to 80 in some parts of the village though Councillors deferred a decision on adopting the new speed limits until April at their monthly meeting last evening.

The discussion also heard concerns that various speed limits in rural areas can cause confusion, but Kilrush Councillor PJ Kelly says a colour coding scheme for line markings on the roads could be the solution
