Clare’s Retained Firefighters Say Labour Court Recommendation Came “Nowhere Close” To Addressing Recruitment And Retention Crisis

Clare’s retained firefighters say the Labour Court’s recommendation came “nowhere close” to addressing the service’s recruitment and retention crisis.

It comes as SIPTU’s retained firefighters have voted by a majority to 82% to 18% to reject the Labour Court’s recommendation which included a 34% rise in the starting salary of a firefighter.

The emergency service’s industrial action, which was descalated to non co-operation on the 19th of June, will resume next Wednesday with the aim of securing more favourable pay and working hours.

Killaloe Fire Station Shop Steward Edward Moloney has been telling Clare FM’s Sean Lyons that the current working conditions are not attracting new recruits into the fire service.
