Clare’s Population Increases In Most Recent Census

Clare’s population is increasing, with more women here than men.

The first results from last year’s Census show that the population of Ireland now stands at just over 4.76 million, and that there’s been a small growth in the number of people here.

As of last April, there were 118,817 people living in County Clare, a figure which has grown by 1.4% in the past five years.

The rate of growth here is less than half of the national average, and growth is strongest in areas closest to Dublin.

There are now 1,250 more women in Clare than men and collectively we are getting older.

The county’s average age has increased to 38.5, up by over one-and-a-half when compared with five years ago.

Other facts revealed today show nearly 5% of us here in Clare are divorced or separated, and while the number of Irish speakers has fallen by over 1,000, just under 1,500 people speak Irish daily outside of education.

There are 905 travellers in the county, 8.4% of people have no religion while just under 10% of all people in Clare are non-Irish nationals.

The number of homes with broadband access grew by 11%.

However, 14,200 homes here – around a third of all houses – still do not have access to broadband.
