Clare’s MEP Insists Drastic Reduction In Plastic Production Needed To Adequately Tackle Climate Crisis

Clare’s MEP claims current rates of recycling are not doing enough to tackle the climate crisis, and that a drastic reduction in the usage of plastic is required.

It comes as the International Court of Justice has began hearings, with the aim of setting legal parameters in place to protect countries most vulnerable to climate change.

Low-lying Pacific Island nations are to the forefront of proceedings, as more than 100 countries are set to make submissions over the course of the unprecedented two week long hearing.

With Ireland currently having the highest rate of plastic rate per person, Scarriff Independent MEP for Ireland South, Michael McNamara, claims greater efforts need to be made to curtail the amount of plastic being produced.
