Michael McNamara raised the issue during a Dáil debate on the rural development fund.
61,000 jobs have been created through agriculture, forestry and fisheries since 2013, which Deputy McNamara points to as evidence that the sector is doing well.
But the Scarriff TD says farmers are continuing to borrow huge sums of money at normal business rates despite indications from the EU Agriculture Commissioner of much lower costs.
