Deep concern has been expressed that Clare has the lowest level of home help hours in the North West.

At this week’s Regional Health Forum meeting, members were informed that the county gets 1.6 hours of home help care per head of population- compared to 2.7 hours in Tipperary and Limerick.
This figure increases to between four and hours per head of population in Sligo and Roscommon -which are in the same service area plan as Clare.
Health forum west member and Clare Councillor Tom McNamara says the HSE says hours in the county are lower as more money going into long stay beds in the county. However he feels this is the wrong approach by government and is much more costly to the taxpayer than home help hours would be.
