Clare’s Green Senator Says Farmers Are Unfairly Blamed For Water Pollution Incidents

Clare’s Green Party Senator claims farmers are often unfairly blamed for water pollution incidents.

It follows a number of instances of pollution in Clare in recent weeks including the Ballymacraven River fish kill in which 2,000 fish died and the closure of two beaches last week due to suspected agricultural run-off.

Senator Roisin Garvey is calling for the number of enforcement officers for farm inspections to be ramped up nationwide in order to improve water quality.

The Inagh native has defended farmers and says water pollution incidents are caused by a small minority.
