It’s claimed Clare’s fishing industry is at risk of death by a thousand cuts following a recent cut to Ireland’s fishing quota.
The total allowable catch for Irish fishermen has been reduced by 57,000 tonnes, as part of an EU move to prevent overfishing.

It represents a third of Ireland’s initial quota and experts say the reduction could potentially cost the fishing industry €105 million and impact up to 2,300 jobs.
Carrigaholt-based Chairperson of the Irish Charter Skippers Association Luke Aston wants to see action on the new quota.
