Traditionally as the weather becomes warmer, there's a rise in the number of rogue traders offering dubious services and while in the past homes in rural areas were mainly targetted, this type of crime has now spread to urban areas also.

The elderly, vulnerable and females in particular are targetted, often being conned out of hundreds, if not thousands of euro and many of these crimes go un-reported.

Gerry Kelly of Clare Age Friendly, who's also a former Assistance Garda Commissioner and Clare Garda Superintendent is appealing to people to ensure they only hire reputable traders.
