The news comes as a Shannon based company has announced plans to create 30 new jobs and expand its premises.

The Central Statistics Office says 8329 people were signing on Clare's dole queues at the end of February, a monthly drop of 92.

The largest fall of 46 was recorded in West Clare, while there were also drops of 33 in Ennis and 22 in Tulla.

In North Clare the figure rose by 3.

Compared with this time last year, the number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit has dropped by 913, or just under 10 per cent.

West Clare Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael Hillery is welcoming the news, but says there is still a long road ahead.

This latest decline in Clare's live register figures come as Modular Automation in Shannon has announced plans to add 30 people to its workforce.

The company, which makes tools for the manufacturing industry and already employs 94 people, has lodged a planning application with Clare County Council to extend its factory at Smithstown Industrial Estate.

Modular Automation hopes to break ground on site in May, with the project expected to be completed before the year is out.
