Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer is urging people in this county to ensure they stay safe online, in the run up to Christmas.
At this time of year, cyber criminals traditionally target shoppers on the lookout for deals ahead of the festive period.
This is often achieved through fake websites or charities, as well as dangerous links.
Sergeant Tríona Brooks says taking a few simple steps can help ensure shoppers stay safe online.
Sergeant Brooks said people should “only use trusted website and auction sites and avoid special offers by email, or pop-up adverts with deals.
“Use secure apps and platforms and monitor your account transactions.
“Don’t complete purchases off site and don’t give out personal or account information.
“Keep your software and passwords updated and don’t use public Wi-Fi to shop online”, she concluded.
