Clare’s Chief Fire Officer is urging people to get a smoke alarm, saying it may save someone’s life.

The main causes of fire at this time of year are candles left unaccompanied, improperly wired fairy lights and Christmas trees falling over.

Clare’s County Fire Service says open fires without fireguards and decorations catching light are also a big concern.

Chief Fire Officer Adrian Kelly says fire safety precautions need to be taken every day but extra care is needed at this time of the year.
