Clare’s 1% ‘A’ BER Rating For Non-Domestic Buildings Lowest In The Country

Clare has recorded the joint-lowest number of ‘A’ Building Energy Ratings nationwide for non-domestic buildings.

The Central Statistics Office’s figures for the final quarter of 2023 show just 1% of such premises in this county scored the highest possible grade.

Between October and December of last year, 18 non-domestic buildings were issued with a building energy rating in Clare for the first time, bringing the the tot al number to 1,928.

The majority of non-domestic Buildings in the Banner are still scoring in the mid-range in terms of Building energy ratings with 31 receiving between a C1 and C3 grade.

However, Clare recorded the joint-lowest amount of ‘A’ grade non-domestic building energy ratings nationwide along with Cork City and Waterford City at just 1%.

Also, 20% of these properties here received either an ‘F’ or ‘G’ grade BER Certificate.

Sports facilities are still the major energy users in the county with over 663,000 Kilowatt-hours used at these locations last year.

Electricity remains the most popular means of heating a non-domestic building at 57%, followed by mains gas at 21% and heating oil at 18%.
