Garda Donal Corkery told the Court that the man was appearing court having been extradited from England.

The accused was arrested at his home in July on foot of a European arrest warrant.

Detective Corkery said the accused was initially interviewed by Gardai in relation to the alleged offences in December 2004 but left the country before the DPP directed that charges be brought in February 2006.

He said Gardai had concerns that if the man was granted bail, that he would not stay in the country to face trial.

In evidence, the accused said he is very happy to remain in Ireland and face the charges, while his wife said that if he did leave, she would tell the police.

Judge Patrick Durcan remanded the accused in custody for one week and said that he would give his ruling on the bail application next Wednesday, October 23rd.
