Clare Woman Says Her Instincts Took Over During Heroic Act To Save Young Boys Life

A Clare woman wo received an accolade for her act of bravery says her previous training as a firefighter spurred her into the action that saved a life.

Last Friday, Mary Noonan was one of 23 people who received a National Bravery Award for her heroic rescue of a young boy who got into difficulty swimming in Kilkee in 2019.

When Mary reached the boy he was face down in the water, she quickly brought him ashore and enabled him regain breath and remove water from his lungs. The boy went on to recover in hospital.

Mary says her fight or flight response kicked in while also highlighting the dangers of secondary drowning in these instances.
