People in this county are being warned not to allow themselves to be caught out by romance scams, after a Clare woman lost a substantial sum of money through this type of fraud.
Between September and October this year, the woman developed an online relationship with a man, who said he was a German engineer living in Galway – the relationship started on a dating site and progressed to What’s App messages.
He said he was involved in a project abroad and asked for money for materials and that he would later repay her, but it resulted in the woman losing a substantial amount of money.
Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Triona Brooks has this advice.
