A Clare woman whose twins were born through surrogacy is appealing to the Government to recognise her as their  mother.

Fiona Whyte says her one year old children Donal and Ruby are legally stateless due to a lack of legislation on surrogacy and other methods of assisted reproduction.

The Miltown Malbay woman has described a recent Supreme Court ruling in the case of another family in a similar situation as worrying.

The Health Minister has promised to bring a bill to the Dáil on the legalities of mothers who have children through surrogacy before the year is out.

However Ms Whyte says she's not convinced it will happen that quickly.
