On Friday, voters will have two tasks – to chose the next President of Ireland and to decide whether or not to remove the reference to blasphemy from the constitution.

The Justice Minister says Ireland’s blasphemy laws are damaging to our reputation internationally.

Charlie Flanagan – who’s advocating for a Yes vote in Friday’s referendum – says most EU countries are changing their laws in recent times and it isn’t reflective of a modern society.

No one has ever been persecuted for Blasphemy in the history of the state, and its removal is supported by the Catholic Church, Church of Ireland and the Presbyterian Church.

The vote takes place at Friday, in tandem with the Presidential election.
