The Chairperson of the Clare Branch of the Vintners Association has broadly welcomed new proposals which would give Councils greater powers to regulate licensed premises.

The provision in the Planning and Development Bill is aimed at keeping off-licences away from historic or tourist areas in towns and cities.
The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald says that a high number of such premises clustered together are leading to concerns over drinking in public places.
Charles O'Meara says their members are happy to work alongside off-licences, as long as they are properly regulated.
