Clare VFI Chair – New Drink Driving Laws “Will Not Save Lives”

The Clare Chair of the Vintners Federation of Ireland insists the new drink driving laws will do nothing to save lives.

Tougher laws, which came into effect last week, mean that all drink drivers will be put off the road – even drinking half a pint of beer could see drivers automatically banned.

Previously, those with blood alcohol levels of between 50 and 80 milligrams were just fined and got penalty points.

Darragh McAllister of Lucas’s Bar in Ennis says there’s a big grey area to be considered.
