It’s reported the Saint Patrick Day visit to the US by the Mayor of Clare is the most expensive of all local authorities sending representatives.
Pat Hayes is leading the visit to New York with with four officials at a cost of 12,000 euro with the second most expensive trip being made by officials from Dublin City Council at and a half thousand Euro.
Meanwhile
A Clare Fine Gael Senator has urged government Ministers travelling abroad this St. Patrick’s Day to keep their spending under control.
17 Ministers are to travel to the four corners of the globe for the national holiday, even though some local authorities like Ennis Town Council have opted not to send officials on account of the economic circumstances.
The government says it will be conveying the message abroad that now is the time to invest in Ireland’s recovery, and the trips have been supported by North Clare Senator Martin Conway.
However, speaking in the Seanad, he called on members of the coalition to be sensible.
