Clare Towns And Villages Pick Up Honours At Tidy Towns 2023

Clare’s towns and villages have picked up a number of honours at this year’s Tidy Towns Competition.

The 65th edition of the event, which is sponsored by Supervalu, took place in Croke Park this afternoon.

Shannon was victorious in the climate action category and was the overall national winner of the Tree Project Award.

Ennis was Clare’s county winner while Ballyvaughan took home the Highly Commended honour for this county and Kilrush was Commended.

Ballyvaughan, Ennis and Kilrush were among the joint recipients of a gold medal while Clarecastle, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Quin, Shannon and Tuamgraney all received bronze.

Looking at the top awards, Geashill, County Offaly was crowned Ireland Tidiest Village, Abbeyleix, County Laois was named Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town and Killarney, County Kerry received the award of Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town.

Ennis managed to make it into the final two for the penultimate award of Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre but this award went to Ballincollig, County Cork.

Meanwhile, it was Abbeyleix that took home the highest honour, being named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2023.
