A Clare town has recorded the highest rate of commercial vacancy in Ireland.
Shannon has been found to have the greatest percentage of unoccupied commercial buildings nationwide with more than a third of properties empty as of December.
The latest GeoDirectory Commercial Buildings Report has revealed that Clare’s commercial vacancy rate in the final three months of 2025 was 16.2%.
This was up by 0.5% compared to the previous quarter and was above the national rate of 14.6%.
Shannon had the highest rate nationwide, with 34.5% of its commercial buildings identified as being vacant, indicating a rise of just under 4% in a year.
Kilrush’s rate was 23.2% which was the 13th highest nationally but was down by more than 1% on the final quarter of 2024.
Commercial vacancy in Ennis meanwhile was found to be at 18.9%, showing a slight decline from 19.3% a year ago.
