A Clare travel agent claims some people have began adapting holiday plans due to the rising temperatures seen at popular travel destinations in the summer months.
It comes as a record high temperature for June was recorded in Spain on Saturday, with a heatwave expected to continue across Europe in the coming days.
The Spanish town of El Granado was clocked at 46 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while parts of Italy and Greece also were sweltering in over 40 degree heat.
Today, temperatures in Paris are predicted to reach 38°, Madrid is set to see 37 degrees, Rome and Athens will hit highs of 35°, while London is to reach 33 degrees.
Destinations across the Mediterranean are expected to continue to see temperatures in the mid to high thirties until at least next Monday.
Ennis based travel counsellor, Michael Kelly has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that Clare tourists have started altering their destinations and travel dates to avoid extreme spells of weather.
Ireland however, is said to have already benefitted to the fullest extent from the spell of high pressure over Europe.
While the rest of the continent continues to bask in a heatwave, Ireland is forecasted to be mostly cloudy, with temperatures in Clare predicted to struggle to hit 20°, having experienced temperatures in the mid twenties last weekend.
Tullycrine native and Met Éireann Forecaster, Michelle Dillon says Ireland was at the edge of the high pressure zone and has since been impacted by a cold front coming in off the Atlantic.
