The Chair of the Clare Tourism Advisory Forum has expressed confidence that steps taken to drive tourists towards the county’s attractions will help underpin businesses in the sector.
It follows a warning from the Tourism Industry Confederation that the economy will lose out on more than a billion euro this year due to hotels being used as asylum seeker accommodation.
The State has booked up more than one in three hotel beds outside of the capital and Sean Lally says this is providing a challenge.
The Ennis hotelier says keeping refugees in hotel accommodation for years isn’t the answer and he believes alternative accommodation should be found in the short term.
