Clare To Benefit From Almost €400,000 Government Funding To Upgrade Social Housing Stock

Clare has been awarded almost €400,000 in government funding to upgrade social housing stock.

It forms part of a €23 million countrywide total announced by The Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government.

€384,348 has been awarded to Clare County Council to facilitate adaptations, extensions and other works to social homes across the county.

The local authority has also contributed a further €42,705 to the fund, bringing the total investment in social housing to €427,053.

The latest tranche of funding is aimed at providing supports for elderly tenants through the installation of stairlifts, hand rails and other age friendly infrastructure.

Tackling the issue of overcrowding in local authority housing is another aim of the funds, through the construction of extensions or additional bedrooms within a property.

While the housing department have confirmed that money announced under this latest round of funding will also contribute to the Improvement Works in Lieu scheme.

This allows work to be undertaken on private houses where applicants have been approved for social housing.
