The latest development in the phased amalgamation of Clare and Tipperary’s Garda Divisions comes into effect today.
As part of An Garda Síochána’s major change programme, the counties’ respective policing districts will be reconfigured as community engagement and crime functional areas.
The programme, officially known as ‘A Policing Service For Our Future’ will see a major shake up in Garda operations across Clare and Tipperary.
From today, there will be seven new functional areas across both counties, replacing the traditional Garda districts.
The existing Garda stations at Ennis, Shannon, Tulla, Crusheen, Sixmilebridge, Newmarket-On-Fergus, Kilrush, Kilkee, Kilmihil, Kildysart, Ennistymon, Miltown Malbay, Corofin, Lisdoonvarna and Ballyvaughan will all form Clare’s Community Engagement Area.
Clare’s Community Engagement area will be led by Superintendent John Ryan.
The communities served by Killaloe and Scariff stations meanwhile will now fall under the remit of the East Clare – Tipp North CEA.
The East Clare – North Tipp CEA will come under the stewardship of two-time All-Ireland winner with Clare, Superintendent Oliver Baker.
Elsewhere, Tipperary will also have CEA’s to service existing stations in Tipperary South and Tipperary Central.
The reconfiguration will also see the establishment of dedicated functional areas in Crime, Business Services and Performance Assurance that cover serve the entirety of both counties.
The remit of crime and performance assurance will be fielded by Superintendents, while Business Services will be led by an Assistant Principal Garda member.
Clare and Tipperary’s Divisional Headquarters will be based in Ennis and fronted by Chief Superintendent Colm O’Sullivan who took up office in the county town last April.
