Clare Has Third-Highest Rate Of Volunteers Nationwide

Clare has the joint-third-highest rate of volunteers of any county nationwide.

A new analysis of data collected in Census 2022 has found that 16% of people in this county regularly engage in voluntary work.

The Central Statistics Office’s ‘Volunteering in Ireland’ report has found that 20,825 residents of County Clare are involved in some form of volunteering.

Sport is unsurprisingly the area in which the majority of volunteers here are involved, with 8,984 people in this county participating in voluntary sports work in some capacity.

This means 7% of Clare people carry out voluntary sports work which is above the national average of 6%.

Community work is the next most popular area followed by community and social or charity.

Just 450 people here are involved in a political organisation which is less than one per cent of the population.

AAt 24%, the majority of volunteers in Clare are between the ages of 45 and 64, while the age bracket of zero to 14 has the lowest proportion of people carrying out regular voluntary work.

At a local level, Killaloe and Sixmilebridge have the joint-highest rate of volunteers in the county with each at 16% while Shannon has the lowest at 12%.
