Secondary School teachers across Clare are urging the Minister for Education to halt the “inherent unfairness” of proposed leaving cert reforms.
Under new plans put forward by the Department last year, classroom and home project work, known as Additional Components Assessment, could account for 40% of a student’s overall subject grade.
Over 30,000 teachers across the country are protesting outside their schools this lunchtime, amid concerns the new system would lead to an unequal exam process, open the door to cheating and undermine the curriculum.
ASTI and NCAA Rep and Physics Teacher at St. Flannan’s College, John Conneely has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that the new plans would disproportionately affect the chances of students from disadvantaged areas.
