A Clare TD has suggested that the inability of medical staff to secure accommodation is contributing to waiting times for podiatry appointments.
It comes as new figures reveal the number of patients with diabetes waiting from podiatry appointment in this county has dropped by 79% since the start of the year, with just 446 on the waiting list now compared to 2,221 in January.
The HSE has confirmed that one there is one Senior Podiatrist and two Staff Grade Podiatrists currently providing Community Podiatry Services in Clare, while two staff members from the Chronic Disease Team based in Limerick have been focusing on the Clare population due to a high number of patients here awaiting treatment.
Scarriff Independent TD Michael McNamara says if staff were better able to acquire housing, the recruitment process would be more seamless and numbers on waiting lists would continue to fall.
