Clare TD Expresses Concerns at Faulty Emergency Devices

A Clare TD has expressed concern that previous knowledge of faulty emergency beacon devices may have helped to save the lives of fishermen off the coast of Clare.

The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has issued an urgent safety alert relating to Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon equipment manufactured by the company G-M-E.

The E-pirbs sends out an emergency signal when a boat is submerged in water or capsizes but the manufacturer has revealed they became aware of potential faults following an Irish tragedy.

Calling for an inquiry into the controversy Fianna Fail’s Transport Spokesman Timmy Dooley has questioned the implications the fault devices may have had in the past.
