A Clare government TD has insisted Irish Water will provide value for money for taxpayers, despite controversies surrounding the new utility.

While concerns have been raised that Irish Water has 2,000 staff on it’s books that it does not need, Fine Gael’s Pat Breen has insisted the government’s arrangements will give people a better service, even though his Fianna Fáil counterpart in the county Timmy Dooley has labelled the utility a monster.

Meanwhile, Irish Water is another step closer to coming under Freedom of Information Act.

The Dáil has passed a motion that will extend the current and future legislation to the public utility.

It’ll be applied retrospectively to the company’s set up date – July 17th, 20-13.
