Clare TD Criticises Government Response To Record Trolley Numbers

Clare’s Independent TD has criticised the Government for failing to implement recommendations aimed at solving the crisis within our health system.

It comes as the Health Minister is holding a tele-conference with Hospital CEOs to discuss overcrowding in Emergency Departments.

Hospital bosses are providing the health minister with an update today on the strains emergency departments are facing.

The meeting comes as figures show a reduction on this week’s record highs, although the INMO statistics demonstrate that pressures remain, with 592 people on trolleys, or awaiting admission to wards.

University Hospital Limerick is once again the busiest in the country, where 52 were waiting for beds, 30 of those in the new Emergency Department.

General Secretary of the INMO, Phil Ni Sheaghdha says there are measures that can ease the crisis;

Meanwhile, Clare’s Independent TD has expressed frustration over the lack of progress on dealing with the overcrowding issue, saying the Government has failed to implement any of the recommendations of the Slaintecare report published seven months ago.

Dr Michael Harty believes a political commitment is needed by the Government, with Former Health Minister, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar driving reform.
