Clare TD Confident Measured Re-Opening This Summer Can Be A Reality

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD has expressed confidence that plans to re-open the economy on a measured basis this summer can become a reality.

A roadmap for the further easing of restrictions is due to be announced later this month, with non essential retail and personal services set to return next month.

It comes as the Licensed Vinters Association has called on the Government to allow outdoor service here for all pubs by the end of May.

The National Public Health Emergency Team has said the country is performing better than we could’ve hoped for in the fight against Covid-19.

The Department of Health reported just over 300 new cases of the virus last night, including 5 here in Clare, and says the pandemic is shrinking by between 2 and 4 per cent every day.

Here in this county, the number of new cases of Covid-19 have fallen by 20 per cent in the past week.

That together with the continued rollout of the vaccine is leading to increasing confidence that we’re edging closer to the re-opening of the economy.

Click and collect services could resume as early as May 4th, with the full return of non-essential retail later in the month and personal services are also set to return around the middle of next month.

The Tánaiste has said he’s increasingly confident the hospitality sector can open by July and that a plan will be published at the end of this month with return dates for pubs, restaurants and hotels.

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe believes a summer re-opening is now becoming more of a reality but he says there must be a measured approach towards easing restrictions.

But with pubs opening for outdoor service in the North next weekend, Publicans here believe it’s “inevitable” that people living in border counties will travel to the North ,

The Licensed Vinters Association is calling on the Government to allow outdoor service here for all pubs by the end of May.
