Clare Independent TD Violet Anne Wynne says she’s extremely concerned about where her family will go when the rental agreement for the holiday home they’re staying in runs out.

The West Clare Deputy claims she’s now homeless after failing to secure rental accommodation in Kilrush, where she, her partner and their six children had been living in a two bed property.

Violet Anne Wynne yesterday posted a video on social media claiming she’s now homeless, over her family being issued with a notice to evict the property they were renting, after she became pregnant with their sixth child.

The former Sinn Féin TD has today told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that they’ve been living in the private rental market for 5 years and that finding appropriate accommodation for a family of their size has been difficult, due to a lack of availability.

Ms Wynne says the process has been “demoralising” and that her family relied on the goodwill of their landlord in Kilrush for a number of years, without which they’d be in their current situation much sooner.

She’s concerned about what will happen when the lease agreement for the holiday home they’re staying in runs out.

As a TD, Ms Wynne is entitled to a wage of just over 101,000 euro and can claim up to 31,365 euro a year in travel and accommodation allowances.

She says in the two years prior to being elected, she was a recipient of social welfare and a carer for her son and claims that being in politics has has a direct impact on her ability to get a mortgage.

Despite now earning a wage, she admits factors such as her credit rating has meant she’s still not in a position to get a home loan.

Deputy Wynne believes Government measures aimed at solving the housing crisis aren’t making an impact and she wants action.

Violet Anne Wynne has been on maternity leave since January and subsequently left the Sinn Fein party.

She says she has no regrets and is confident that being an Independent will empower her to make a difference on her return to Leinster House.
