Clare TD Claims Responsibility Falls On Independents To Affect Change

Clare's Fianna Fáil TD says the responsibility is on independents and smaller parties to affect change in the new Government.

Timmy Dooley is reacting to comments by Clarecastle TD Joe Carey who says Fianna Fáil are not engaging fully in the process to form a new Government, which he believes could ultimately lead to another election.

Talks on a coalition are continuing after the 32nd Dáil failed to nominate a Taoiseach last night.

Enda Kenny is now leading the Government in a caretaker capacity, with other Ministers also continuning to carry out their duties until replacements are appointed.

The Dáil will meet again on Tuesday week but it will be April before another candidate has a chance to go to the House and look for support to become Ireland’s next Taoiseach.

Ahead of this, Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey is calling on Fianna Fáil to engage fully in the process of forming a new Government, saying he doesn't believe a minority Government led by either party would work.

The Clarecastle TD insists any alternative to a grand coalition would lead to another election:

But Clare's Fianna Fáil TD says turning it's back on pre-election promises to provide an alternative to Enda Kenny as Taoiseach could ultimately lead to the demise of the party.

Timmy Dooley says they will continue to pursue the election of Micheal Martin as Taoiseach and that the onus is now on smaller parties and independents to affect the change they campaigned for.
