A Clare Independent TD claims primary schools are being depleted of vital funds due to a failure of government policy.
As part of budget 2024, the capitation grant which assists national schools with day to day running costs was increased to €200 per student per annum.

However in September, a joint letter issued by all seven primary management bodies sought a rate of at least €275 to mitigate soaring insurance premiums.
Scariff Deputy Michael McNamara believes that more students would benefit if the state picked up the tab.
